Apicoectomy

An apicoectomy is surgery involving the tip of a tooth root in selected cases. It may be considered as a tooth-preserving option when problems persist after root canal treatment.

What is assessed?

The restorability of the tooth, existing root treatment and surrounding findings are assessed. Root canal retreatment is also considered.

Treatment process

Surgical access is made to the root tip to manage the affected area and complete the necessary root-end treatment. Anatomy and local findings determine the technique.

Care and follow-up

Healing is monitored through clinical and radiographic reviews. Not every tooth is suitable; alternatives are discussed at assessment.

Preparing for your first visit

  1. Discussion of your concern and medical history.
  2. Clinical examination and appropriate diagnostic records.
  3. Review of alternatives, treatment stages and maintenance needs.
Suitability is determined at clinical assessment. Medical history, medication, existing tissues and expectations may influence the plan. Duration, appointments, fees and possible risks are discussed after individual evaluation.
