Panoramic and Periapical X-rays

Panoramic and periapical X-rays provide different types of information during dental assessment. Imaging is selected according to examination findings and clinical need.

What is assessed?

Previous images, symptoms and planned treatment are considered. Relevant health circumstances should be discussed before imaging.

Treatment process

A panoramic image covers a wider area, while a periapical image focuses on particular teeth and their roots. Other imaging may be considered when needed.

Care and follow-up

Images are interpreted alongside clinical examination. The type and frequency of imaging are not the same for every patient.

Preparing for your first visit

  1. Discussion of your concern and medical history.
  2. Clinical examination and appropriate diagnostic records.
  3. Review of alternatives, treatment stages and maintenance needs.
Suitability is determined at clinical assessment. Medical history, medication, existing tissues and expectations may influence the plan. Duration, appointments, fees and possible risks are discussed after individual evaluation.
